Firstly my sympathy is with the people affected and it is the biblical thing to assist those in distress.
But there are reasons why there are increasing natural disasters. And that reason is to do with a thing called sin!
There is good and bad everywhere but Australians seem to be immune from thinking about God visiting their sin upon their heads.
Meanwhile 'across the ditch', New Zealand has banned Kosher Slaughtering while ensuring that every animal exported is ritually Halal slaughtered for our Muslim 'friends'. Is it any wonder that we get earthquakes in the New Zealand town of Christchurch? The Jews can't practice their religion but the Muslims can?
Wakeup.
We are told concerning the Canaanites that the land vomited them up because of their wickedness.
God is shaking the nations. And the people, just like their leaders, cannot see it.
America has been hit hard everytime they applied pressure on Israel. When people never learn their lessons you have to question their sanity.
Rudd puts the pressure on the Apple of God's Eye

Only a few months have gone by since Australian ex-prime-minister pulled Julia Gillard's cabinet knife out of his back. Yet he has learnt nothing from it except to do the same to Israel.
Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd has wrapped up a visit to the Middle East by telling Israel it should allow UN inspectors into its nuclear facilities.
His comments on Israel's nuclear program gave Israeli officials an unpleasant surprise, as they were published online during a gala dinner in Jerusalem marking the friendship between Australia and Israel.
In an interview with the Australian newspaper, Mr Rudd not only called on Israel to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), but said it should open all its nuclear facilities to UN inspectors.
The next thing Rudd finds out is that his own State has been judged.

experiencing 'disaster of biblical proportions'
We must thank Kevin Rudd for showing us so clearly that those who
bless Israel will be blessed and those that curse Israel will be cursed.
Thank you Father for your mercy by giving us the opportunity to think.
(Actually that sounds like a good Hebrew Blessing for Israel and the Nations.)
Zechariah 12:2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.
